Dijon: A must-see city
Dijon isn’t shy about its assets. This historic, cultural, sporting and foodie city has it all. You can wander the city centre in search of the Dukes of Burgundy while enjoying some of the region’s speciality dishes; you can enjoy shows, theatre, the Exhibition Centre and the Auditorium to get your fill of thrills then refresh yourself at Lake Kir, the Olympic Pool or breathe in the air at Colombière Park.
Leave the city centre to the south and be delighted by the place names. You’re in the heart of Burgundy now alongside Gevrey-Chambertin, Aloxe Corton, Vosne-Romanée, Beaune, Pommard, Meursault: picturesque towns and villages which will give you a warm welcome to contrast with their cool, centuries-old cellars. If you head towards the north of the Côte d’Or other big names await: Epoisses and the Marquise de Sévigné; Bussy-le-Grand, its chateau and the master of the house Roger de Rabutin, Comte de Bussy; Montbard and Georges-Louis Leclerc, the naturalist Comte de Buffon, father of the Paris Jardin des Plantes; the Abbey of Fontenay, that Cistercian masterpiece founded by Saint Bernard of Clairvaux, and more.
